Types of stay
What do you want from your stay? Each page ranks the regions by our editorial score and shows how to stay there.
- Wake up by the waterCzechia has no sea, but it does have Lipno (48.7 km²), Rožmberk and hundreds of other fishponds, glacial lakes in Šumava and reservoirs on the Vltava. By the water you swim in summer, watch the fish harvests in autumn and find silence in winter.
- Wake up in the mountainsThe highest mountains in Czechia are Krkonoše, with Sněžka (1,603 m). The Jeseníky, with Praděd, have the harshest climate; the Beskydy are the largest protected landscape area. In the mountains, more than anywhere else, it matters how you will reach your accommodation in winter.
- Wake up in the forestFour national parks, dozens of protected landscape areas and sandstone rock towns. Staying in nature also means knowing the rules – in national parks, camping and lighting fires outside designated places are not allowed.
- Wake up in townTowns are at their best in the morning and evening, once the day-trippers have gone. That is why it pays to stay the night – even in small ones such as Telč or Třeboň.
- Wake up at a spaCzechia has dozens of officially designated spa towns providing spa care – from Karlovy Vary to Třeboň with its peat. Besides treatment stays, most spas also sell short wellness stays without a doctor’s referral.
- Wake up to silenceSilence is a rare commodity these days. You will find the most of it in Vysočina, the Jeseníky, Šumava and around Třeboň – outside the main season and away from the resorts.
- Wake up with the kidsWith children, what matters is short journeys, water, animals and a plan B for rain. That is exactly what the Family score in Stay DNA measures.
- Wake up with your dogDogs do best in open landscape without cars. Watch out in national parks: in Bohemian Switzerland the law forbids domestic animals from roaming free outside villages, and in Krkonoše dogs may not run loose.
- Wake up togetherRomance is not a hot tub with candles. It is a town in the morning with nobody about, a fishpond dam at dusk, a tiny house at the edge of a meadow.
