Region

Vysočina

Silence · Fishponds · Telč · Cross-country skiing

Gentle uplands between Bohemia and Moravia. Three UNESCO sites, the Žďárské vrchy hills and plenty of room for doing nothing.

Vysočina has three UNESCO sites: the historic centre of Telč (1992), the Pilgrimage Church on Zelená hora near Žďár nad Sázavou (1994), and the Jewish Quarter and basilica in Třebíč (2003).

To the north lies the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area (709 km², since 1970), whose highest point is Devět skal (836 m). At the start of 2023, Vysočina had the highest concentration of glamping sites in Czechia.

    How we chose

    • Vysočina is a tourist area, not an administrative region, so it has no official border. We draw it as an area around one reference point (reference point between Telč and Žďár nad Sázavou).
    • Facts such as areas, dates and rules come from official bodies and Wikipedia. Each one is in the source list below, with the date we last checked it.
    • Stay DNA and the “Know before you go” panel are our editorial estimates, compared with the other places in the atlas. They are not measurements or visitor ratings.
    • We name no individual hosts, and nobody pays to be included.
