Glamping and tiny houses

Glamping · Tiny house · Shepherd’s hut

Glamping is camping where you do not have to put anything up or carry anything in. You sleep in nature, but in a bed. You pay for the experience – so it is worth knowing exactly what you are buying.

What it is

Glamping comes from glamorous camping. It means holiday accommodation in an attractive natural setting with comfortable furnishings. It spread in the 21st century, markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic, and is often linked with the idea of a digital detox and sustainability.

According to the available data, at the start of 2023 the highest concentration of glamping sites in Czechia was in Vysočina, and the lowest in northern Moravia.

Tiny house

A tiny house is a miniature, fully equipped and habitable house, usually of roughly 10–20 m². The tiny-house movement promotes smaller, simpler living. For a stay it is ideal for two: a kitchenette, a shower, a bed and a big window onto the landscape.

Questions before booking

  1. Where are the toilet and shower? In the unit, or a few metres across the meadow?
  2. Heating: a stove, electricity or nothing? What is it like at night in April?
  3. Electricity: enough to charge a phone? Is there a fridge?
  4. Access: can you drive right up to it? And after dark?
  5. Rain: where do you spend the day when it rains?
  6. Children and stairs: crucial for treehouses.
