Holidays from the station
Train · Without a car · Sustainability
Not every destination is a struggle without a car. Here are five places where you step off the train and the weekend can begin.
The editorial Car-free score in Stay DNA rates how easily you can reach a place by public transport and then get around once you are there. Here are the places with the highest scores, and their limits.
1. Prague – 10/10
It goes without saying. The main station, the metro, the trams.
2. Třeboň – 7/10
A direct fast train from Prague (since 2019), two stations in town, bike hire at the station. The limit: the villages round about. Třeboň without a car
3. Český Krumlov – 8/10
A train from České Budějovice on line 194. The limit: the station is above the town, about twenty minutes’ walk downhill to the centre.
4. The Karlovy Vary region – 7/10
The spa towns are linked by trains and buses. The limit: the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory).
5. Western Krkonoše – 6/10
The Pojizerský Pacifik to Rokytnice, the Zubačka rack railway to Harrachov. The limit: getting up to the ridges means a bus or walking.
