Flat · Dams · Nature trails · Greenways
The Třeboň area is the flattest part of South Bohemia. The whole protected area lies between 406 and 541 metres above sea level, so what decides your day is not fitness but how many dams, canals and fishponds you want to see.
- Altitude in the protected area
- 406–541 m

Routes from Třeboň
All three main loops start on the dam of the Svět fishpond, a kilometre from the square.
Cesta kolem Světa (the loop round Svět) – about 11 km
A loop round the Svět fishpond: the spa park by Aurora, a peat bog, pine forest by the Spolský mlýn mill and Baroque farmsteads in the hamlet of Odměny. Flat, partly tarmac and partly footpath. For children, an afternoon or warming up.
Okolo Třeboně nature trail – 39 km
The oldest nature trail in the area, created in 1989 and maintained by the protected area’s administration. It has 22 stops with information boards. It runs from the Svět dam along the dam of the Opatovický fishpond to the Spálená borkovna peat bog and the Barbora gamekeeper’s lodge, across the Zlatá stoka canal to the Chlum fishponds, through Lutová and Stříbřec to Stará Hlína. From there it returns to Třeboň past the south side of Rožmberk.
Surface: minor roads, dams, forest tracks, gravel. Bike: touring, gravel or mountain.
Rožmberk trail – 22 km
A loop from Třeboň to the largest fishpond in the country and back. Along the Rožmberk dam (2,355 m) and past the Nová řeka, a canal that since the 16th century has carried floodwater from the Lužnice to the Nežárka.

- Prague–Vienna Greenways – 456 km, moderately demanding. It passes through Jindřichův Hradec; from Třeboň you join it on cycle route 122 to Chlum u Třeboně and then on route 322.

Surfaces and seasons
The dams are narrow. On the dams you will meet walkers, anglers and, in season, families with pushchairs. Ride slowly and ring your bell in good time.
- April–June: the best light, birds on the fishponds, fewer people.
- July–August: busy, hot, mosquitoes. Set off early.
- September–October: fish harvests, mist over the ponds. Expect restrictions on the dams during harvests.
Where to stay as a cyclist
Look for accommodation that offers a lockable room for bikes, not just “the yard”. For the loops round Rožmberk, Stará or Nová Hlína makes a good base; for the southern routes, Chlum u Třeboně. More in Where to stay in Třeboň.
