Třeboň in summer

Beaches · Bikes · Evenings · Mosquitoes

Summer is when Třeboň is liveliest: dams full of bikes, café terraces on the square, the little train round Svět. Know a few tricks and you can have it to yourself even in August.

Updated

Where to swim

  • The Opatovický fishpond – a small beach by the holiday centre on the northern edge, and another at Doubí.
  • Třeboň Water World at Aurora – with outdoor pools too since 2023.

The fishponds are first and foremost working reservoirs. In summer, the regional public health authorities (krajské hygienické stanice) monitor bathing-water quality and publish it on their websites.

The rhythm of a summer day

TimeWhat
6:30–10:00Bike or walk along the dams – cool, empty, birds
10:00–15:00Water, shade, lunch, a siesta
15:00–18:00The château or the brewery cellars (6 °C)
19:00–22:00The square, the Svět dam at sunset

Mosquitoes

A fishpond landscape has mosquitoes in the warm months. They are worst at dusk by the water and in the woods around the peat bogs.

  • Ask your host about window screens.
  • For an evening walk, take long sleeves and repellent.
  • In the morning and at midday, on open, breezy dams, there are fewest mosquitoes.

How we chose

  • We wrote about Třeboň because it works as a base for a stay: there is somewhere to sleep, something to do on foot or by bike, and a way to get there.
  • Facts such as areas, dates and rules come from official bodies and Wikipedia. Each one is in the source list below, with the date we last checked it.
  • We name no individual hosts, and nobody pays to be included.
